The Dada movement – with its emphasis on play, absurdity and surrealism – has proved potent inspiration for a host of artists and institutions since its early-20th century inception in Europe. The exhibition Dada South? (2009–2010), curated by Roger van Wyk and Kathryn Smith at the South African National Gallery, considered the movement in the Global South, and South Africa in particular – proving, amongst other things, that European Dadaists were familiar with Africa, and that much of Apartheid-era South African art was Dadaist in its surreality (whether intentionally or otherwise).

Produced in 2011, this poster illustrates the many links – or 'flight paths' – between Dadaist movements around the world.
