“I am interested in nature and beauty as a facilitator for healing and art as therapy," artist Marsi van de Heuvel writes. "I believe that being in a natural space or by engaging with an image of a natural space, one can project oneself into it and that can be beneficial to the healing process.”
Drawn with thousands of parallel lines, the still life featured on this postcard is as much a gesture of commitment as it is the transcription of an image. Marsi’s slow and exacting method necessitates many hours spent at work. She describes her process as both “monotonous” and “meditative”, a commitment to time spent accumulating single strokes into a pictorial whole.
