Unrest was published on the occasion of Hasan and Husain Essop’s 2014 exhibition at the National Gallery. The publication details the Essop brothers’ work from 2006 to 2014 and includes their graduate works (2006), early works (2007 - 2008), Halaal Art series (2009) and Remembrance (2010 - 2012). In an interview with Cornelia Knoll published by Africa is a Country, they position Unrest as a response to both recent xenophobic violence and the ongoing struggle for land, adequate housing, education and equality in South Africa.

Unrest includes a foreword by Sue Williamson and an essay by Andrew Lamprecht.
