In preparation for his show The Black and White Cape Town Report at A4, Dan Perjovschi spent two weeks in Cape Town engaging the local context through spontaneous encounters, conversations, commutes, and by reading the daily papers. Perjovschi deciphered the information he collected through a constellation of drawings made directly onto the gallery walls using his 'trademark' black marker pen. These combined familiar, reworked, and transplanted images with new data and motifs. The wall became a collection of aphorisms and caricatures: a super-sized newsworthy strip.

Among Perjovschi's requirements is that his work be erased. This process of erasure was documented, but before the wholesale disappearance of The Black and White Cape Town Report, Proto was invited to make a selection of Perjovschi's marker musings for a series of T-shirts and postcards.

The Black and White Cape Town Report opened at A4 on February 13, 2019, and ran until May 9, 2019.

Dan Perjovschi (b.1961) is an artist, writer and activist born in Sibiu, Romania. His artistic practice combines illustration, political satire, comedy, performance. “Perjovschi does not ignore the inherent contradictions of the socioeconomically privileged arena where his work can be found,” Ocula magazine wrote of the artist. “To violence, opulence and extremism, he responds with puns, laughter and ridicule as the protection of freedom.”
