Pairing baroque kitsch and confectionary, Fanie Buys’ vase is a pearlescent homage to excess. In appearances, it might well be made from icing, or paint scraped off a palette into haphazard shape. Even so, it betrays celebrity aspirations, aspires to wealth even as it appears to melt.
