After working for Condé Nast Independent Magazines in South Africa, ceramics artist Eva Maria Shuman made a career shift from writing about visual art to creating her own. The growth of her artistic practice is fondly observed and documented through proto~, which carries a range of her works including vases, plates and candelabra.
The artist gives each piece its own personality. The eclectic shapes she creates are inspired by the artist’s personal style, and marked by a distinct layering technique particularly evident in the earthenware .
Born in London, Eva Maria Shuman completed her BA(Hons) in Fashion History & Theory at Central Saint Martins in 2013 before moving to South Africa. She currently lives and works in Cape Town.
