The Multispec series emerged from an anomaly that the artist came across accidentally in the Google Images search system: small image files, containing data in the form of monochromatic information fields, that are continually generated and deleted as a byproduct of the search and categorisation software. Heidrich set about capturing examples of these images before they are removed, and uses them as the basis for a series of works in various media.
Multispec II is a test piece of Heidrich’s larger works, UV printed on found aluminium plates. The material is rough, and must be handled with gloves to protect it from the oils naturally found on human skin. Finger marks from the scrapyard where the artist originally sourced the material can be seen on the back of one of the plates.
