The Multispec series emerged from an anomaly that the artist came across accidentally in the Google Images search system: small image files, containing data in the form of monochromatic information fields, that are continually generated and deleted as a byproduct of the search and categorisation software. Heidrich set about capturing examples of these images before they are removed, and uses them as the basis for a series of works in various media.
Multispec examines how art can be created through the translation and interpretation of information and data. Heidrich explores the fluid and dynamic nature of the relationships formed online – between the uploader, the browser, the platform and the user.
