Founded in Durban in 1954, the Women’s Cultural Group has greatly contributed to the South African Indian community as a place of learning, support, and cultural exchange. The Group remains committed to education, and much of its charitable work funds bursaries for students. Proceeds from the best-selling book, , continue to support the members in this effort. The book’s editor, Zuleikha Mayat, is the organisation’s founding member.
