Embroideries, 2016, Pierre le Riche
In this limited-edition, handbound artist’s book, Pierre le Riche offers a series of cross-stitch embroideries, gathered under the discrete headings Scope, Nudes, Portraits, and Colour Complex. Beautifully made, the book requests care when handling – “to be treated as a precious object,” a note on the dustcover reads.
Embroideries includes an essay, White Women on Their Knees, by photographer Roelof Petrus van Wyk.
Pierre le Riche (b. 1986) is an artist living and working in Cape Town. He primarily works in sculpture and installation, and while he does not favour any one medium, he is perhaps best known for his yarnbombing and needlework.
