This monograph published by blank projects showcases selected works by Igshaan Adams between 2009 and 2015. Adams’ work is rooted in his culture and identity, and the catalogue provides a deeper understanding of him and his reflection on the intersections of religion, sexuality and race. His work has been described by Art Times as “quiet activism”, and when speaking on his practice he is quoted by the same publication saying, “I am concerned with my two environments: the internal and the external; and the constant exchange of information between the two. As I project myself onto the world, so too do I internalize the world’s projections onto me.”

Adams’ range and versatility with form including tapestry, sculpture and performance are beautifully displayed throughout the publication, which also includes a conversation with Jennifer Ball and texts by Josephine Higgins and Ruth Simboa.

Cape Town artist Igshaan Adams (b.1982) received a Diploma in Fine Art from the Ruth Prowse School of Art, and completed his MFA at Rhodes University in 2015. In 2018 he was the recipient of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art.
