From the publisher:

“This sumptuously illustrated volume accompanies the first survey exhibition of Kentridge's work to tour the United States. The essayists focus on his animated films, drawings, and theatre productions as they delve into their cultural context as well as the artist’s resonant personal concerns.

Kentridge has created a remarkable new work especially for this book: a sixteen-page procession of figures marching across the opening pages. Included as well are film sequences drawn directly from the artist’s master tapes. Many of Kentridge’s most significant works, including charcoal drawings from throughout his career, are reproduced in the extensive plate section. This publication is the definitive study of one of the most important artists of our day.”

Published on the occasion of the travelling exhibition by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, in association with Harry N. Abrams Publishers, William Kentridge includes essays by Neal Benezra, Staci Brois, Lynne Cooke and Ari Sitas, and an interview with Dan Cameron and the artist.

The exhibition, curated by Neal Beneza, Staci Boris and Dan Cameron, was presented at the Hirshhorn Museum (Washington, DC), New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles), and the South African National Gallery (Cape Town) between 2001 and 2003.

This second-hand copy features a signed dedication from William Kentridge addressed to ‘Peter’.
