“This catalogue, which was inspired by the Harvest of Thorns exhibition (2013), which intriguingly referenced canonical texts in Zimbabwe and Africa, is the first of its kind in the sense that it seeks to collate and focus new critical and scholarly perspectives on Kudzanai Chiurai’s internationally-acclaimed and growing body of work. It proceeds from the premise that much of what has circulated by way of reviews, interviews and criticism has fixated on segmented (if not standalone) surfacing aspects of Chiurai’s work.”

Born the year after the fall of Rhodesia and the birth of Zimbabwe, Kudzanai Chiurai (b.1981) takes as thematic fulcrum in his work cycles of political, economic and social strife present in post-colonial societies. He continues to live and work in Zimbabwe.
