In this new series of sculptures from ssoft_stuff studio, formalism finds a playful expression. Made from dense foam, machine-routed and later sealed in paint, each piece pairs precision and light-hearted humour. Some offer more practical uses – as light stand, vase or end table – and others are purely decorative.

Art and architecture studio ssoft_stuff was founded by Alex Coetzee in 2020 to articulate “an ongoing representational project concerned with the mediation between lived spatial experience and image. His working process involves chance encounters with the outside world – walking, running and driving through natural landscapes – which are mediated through the lens of everyday contemporary technology. Through this he asks questions about perception, representation and spatial presence.” Alex lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.
