This enamel pin is styled after Kyle Morland’s Banana Follow U (2019), a marine-grade aluminium sculpture that stands at over two metres tall. Where the work’s formal attributes quote industrial ducts and other commercial fittings, its title is taken from a phrase seen emblazoned on a local mini-bus taxi. The sculpture is of its setting – namely, Maitland, a district of factories and supply stores at Cape Town’s inner-city edge, cleaved by a commuting thoroughfare, where the artist’s studio at Atlantic House is situated.
